Parliament attacker’s wife expresses her sadness over Husband’s fatal actions

The wife of Khalid Masood, Rohey Hydara has spoken out after last week’s dismay and expresses how ‘saddened and shocked’ she is at her husbands actions, which resulted in the death of five and left dozens wounded. 52-year-old Khalid Masood, was identified as being the perpetrator in connection to the Westminster disarray, which occurred on Wednesday March 22nd.

The attack unfolded as Masood drove a car into members of the public on Westminster Bridge, resulting in the death of three people, two of which died on the scene and one who later on died at hospital, as a result of their injuries. He then crashed the car outside Parliament whilst trying to enter the building, armed with two knives, before being shot dead. 54-year-old American tourist Kurt Cochran, 43-year-old sixth-form college administrator Aysha Frade, 75-year-old Leslie Rhodes and 48-year-old PC Keith Palmer, who had been working with the parliamentary and diplomatic protection service for over 15 years have been named as the victims that lost their lives.

Rohey Hydara, who is believed to have been Masood’s second wife, has since then issued out a statement condemning her husband’s actions and offering condolences to the families of his victims. “I am saddened and shocked by what Khalid has done. I totally condemn his actions. I express my condolences to the families of the victims that have died, and wish a speedy recovery to all the injured”. “I would like to request privacy for our family, especially the children, at this difficult time”. London’s Metropolitan Police, the Guardian reports, released the statement.

Masood’s mother also made a statement to police saying she was “numbed” by her son’s actions and shed tears for all the victims and families who are grieving. British counterterrorism officials and Police are currently investigating Masood’s drive for the attack. Officials have stated that although his methods illustrated those of Islamic State leaders, there is no evidence to suggest he had any connection to international terrorist groups or discussed the planning of his attack with others. Although the Met stated on Monday that Masood displayed a clear interest in Jihad. An article by the NBC News suggests that Masood’s methods in the attack appeared to be “based on low sophistication, low tech, low cost techniques copied from other attacks”.

Khalid Masood, who was born in Kent with the birth name Adrian Elms, was thought to have been living in the West Midlands but reports later on confirmed he was in fact living in Birmingham. Khalid was killed with a single gunshot wound to the chest, an inquest has heard. The 52-year-old was shot dead by an armed officer after gaining entry to the Palace of Westminster.

A vigil was held yesterday at Westminster Bridge to mark a week since the incident occurred and to also remember those that had lost their lives and those that were still recovering.
