James Stimson Audio Engineer, Sound Designer and DJ
James Stimson is audio engineer, sound designer and DJ. Originally from Rutland; also known for being the smallest county in England. He decided he wanted a career in the audio industry after his first recording session in his 3rd year of Secondary School (Catmose College). After he finished school he went straight into college to study Music Technology where he learned the basics of record production, studio recording techniques, and was given the chance to mix records to be put out on an low level indie label called (can’t remember) and met some incredible mix engineers of whom he had access to for tutorials and mix feedback.
His love for music has been like a burning fire for as long as he could remember, his parents owned a massive collection of CD’s, Cassettes and records that would be played throughout the house every day. he still have memories of waking up to AC/DC and Led Zeppelin blasting through the house before he leaving for school, and returning to Kyle Walker and John Lee Hooker. There has always been a lot of trust between him and his parents which allowed him to experience music festivals such as Board Master’s at a young age which allowed him to appreciate a much broader range of genres.
After he graduated College he accepted to study a Music Technology Degree at The University of West London. Moving to London has been a big change from the small town life he was used to. However, he has been able to attend some amazing concerts and meet some amazing musicians simply busking and get them in the studio which helped to promote their performances. London also led him to meet two seriously talented musicians called Sam Renascent and Danny Platinum who both approached him to work with them in the studio on their personal albums as well as collaborations outside of University.
After his first year of University he decided he wanted to work with video after attending to lectures with sound designer and Composer Sam Sutton who would give demonstrations and live tutorials on designing sound for film as well as writing arrangements of electronic music to fit a modern video and television. He was able to exchange on to a course specific to the art of Post Production and have not looked back since!
Currently he is working on a short film written and directed by an Italian Master's student named Ari Risotti, as well as collaborating with film makers from Ealing Film School and The London Film Academy. He also produce and host a weekly radio show on Blast Radio showcasing new music to students on campus and also his online audience which has been a great experience so far; giving him the chance to meet some incredible musicians and discover a large amount of new music. James said: “Abbas was very kind to let me on his show and I hope you all enjoy the show as much as we did making it”.
